Miró Mallorca Foundation

Fundació Miró Mallorca offers a way into Joan Miró's art through the spaces associated with making it. Exhibitions are part of the attraction, but so is architecture designed around an artist's work. This makes the foundation especially rewarding for visitors who want to think about how a studio shapes the possibilities of a painting or sculpture.

Josep Lluís Sert designed the studio where Miró began working in 1956. The Moneo building, designed by Rafael Moneo and opened in 1992, gives the foundation another architectural voice. Son Boter, an eighteenth-century Mallorcan house used by Miró as a studio, forms a further part of this creative legacy.

Looking beyond the exhibition rooms

The foundation combines its collection and exhibitions with studio architecture and a sculpture garden. It is worth approaching the visit as an exploration of working spaces as well as finished art. The operator recommends allowing around two hours.

General admission is paid, with concessions and selected free-admission periods. Check current arrangements before visiting. Son Boter has been subject to restoration works and temporary closure; confirm access rather than assuming every historic space is open.

Miró's work becomes more tangible when considered alongside the buildings made or adapted for his creative life.
